dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We are so grateful to even be considered to help raise the child you’re carrying. It takes an incredible amount of bravery and selflessness to do what you’re doing, and we are in awe of how much of that you clearly possess. We have a warm and welcoming home for the child you’re bringing into this world, family and friends who are already so eager to meet them, and smiles, hugs, and comforting words to spare. We know this is an immensely difficult choice you’re making, and we want you to know our hearts are so ready to care for, look after, and raise a child with empathy, kindness, ambition, self-worth, and care for others.

Our promise to you is to do everything we can to make sure this child knows they are loved no matter what—and that they are worthy of that love every day. We want to impart our own love of friends and family and passion for caring for others. We hope that aligns with what you would want for the child you’re carrying.

We are so thankful for your consideration and your openness as well as your courage. We could not do this without someone like you making this tough choice, and we will always have gratitude for that.

-Luke & Bob

About Us

We are a pair of creative, open-hearted people who have been in a committed relationship for 14 years and married for 12. We met in college and have been together ever since! Bob manages performances and events for a local nonprofit arts organization, and Luke works as a writer, serving as a creative director for a local advertising agency. In our free time, we enjoy creating with our friends as well and co-own a local professional theater company that specializes in comedic musical performances. Bob has a penchant for volleyball and enjoys backyard time with friends, and Luke’s favorite non-work activities include going to the movies and composing music.

Our Home & Pets

We live in a quiet residential neighborhood in a mid-sized city in the Midwest. We are blessed to live near many of our closest friends and within a day’s drive of our immediate families, and we live in a city with thriving arts and business communities. There are awesome bike trails, a lively downtown that we frequent regularly, beautiful parks, and schools with excellent programs all across town—one of which we live just a block down the street from. We’ve lived here for 16+ years, and we definitely plan on staying!

Our Extended Family

We both have supportive, loving families within a half-day’s drive or less from our home. Bob grew up very near where we live now, and his mother, a retired elementary teacher, still lives there. His late father passed away about five years ago. Both of Bob’s siblings live close by as well: a younger sister with a husband and three children (and a fourth on the way) and a younger brother with a wife and two children. His family loves getting together and telling bad jokes, playing board games, and probably having a bowl of chili or two at Christmastime.

Luke grew up one state over, and his mom and dad both still live in the town he grew up in. His mom is a retired elementary teacher as well, and his dad recently retired from 40+ years in accounting. Luke’s older brother lives about four hours away and works in corporate retail. Luke’s grandma is his hero, and she’s a retired teacher as well, who lives about five hours north. Luke’s family loves playing trivia games, seeing as many movies as humanly possible, and traveling—with a running competition of visiting the most states!

What Led Us To Adoption

Ever since our first week of dating, we’ve known adoption would be part of our journey. We were raised in loving families with siblings and extended families who cared for us, and we’ve always shared a dream of being able to carry that on in our own household. We’ve built a beautiful foundation in our 14+ years together, and that includes surrounding ourselves with a village of support we can count on. We look forward to giving the love we’ve shown to our friends’ and siblings’ children to our own child one day.
