dear expectant mother

Dear Expectant Mother,

We believe you are the most capable person to make the very best decision for yourself and the baby you carry. We cannot imagine all of the emotions, influences, and information you must be considering right now as you determine your best path forward. We hope you feel confidence in yourself as you decide what to do next and that you trust in your own wisdom.

Since deciding to grow our family, we’ve considered a wide variety of options very carefully. Like so many choices in life, these options all have their own challenges and opportunities, and many times, we didn’t know how to move forward. By trusting our hearts and giving ample time and space to reflect, we have found a path that has led us through some incredibly magical experiences so far with fostering and given us absolute confidence that more are to come in the form of private adoption. We hope you can find that same trust in yourself.

Thank you for considering including us on your journey.

With respect and support,
Matt & Hale

Whomever we welcome into our family will be received with open, loving arms by aunts, uncles, and close friends who love traveling, theater, wakeboarding, horses, and ice cream.

About Us

We are industrious, adventurous, caring, and carefree, and we love traveling, spending time with our family and friends, and pursuing a variety of entrepreneurial endeavors. We’ve been on this road together for a long time, having met on Myspace before online dating was popular. We’re naturally curious and love exploring the world around us, we both regularly attend a longstanding book club with our extended family, and we dive into whatever topic catches our interest. Science, design, and exploration are cornerstones of our lives as individuals and as a couple. We got engaged in the desert of Nevada and had an intimate flash mob ceremony at a museum. Our professional pursuits often overlap with our passions, and you can find us building and managing RV parks and campgrounds, rehabilitating historical buildings, or commercializing cutting-edge technologies.

Our Home & Pets

We’ve worked hard pouring ourselves into our home environment to create a haven that is as unique and welcoming as we are. We have a deep appreciation for art, gardening, and the natural world. Located along a thriving river, we get the privilege of being surrounded by an array of wildlife that calls the surrounding ecosystem home. We have two dogs, five chickens, and approximately 120,000 honeybees. Our neighborhood is close enough to an urban center to be accessible but distant enough to still feel natural and wild. It’s the sort of neighborhood where children frequently play in the streets and explore the river and neighbors are also supportive friends.

Our Extended Family

We cherish our close ties to our inherited and chosen family. With deep roots in Texas and Maine, we enjoy spending time in both and love traveling to and with our families.

Whomever we welcome into our family will be received with open, loving arms by aunts, uncles, and close friends who love traveling, theater, wakeboarding, horses, and ice cream. They already have their first six cousins, the most recent born in March 2023. More are on the way, including at least one other adopted baby in our friend group. They’ll get visits from grandmothers who are gourmet chefs, talented crafters, and master gardeners. And they can learn woodworking, fishing, and how to ride a tractor from the grandpas.

When we are all together, you can find us constructing massive Halloween projects, going on winding road trips, planning epic surprise birthday parties, or debating in book club meetings. Whatever we are doing, we’re having fun and enjoying each others’ diverse perspectives and probably trying something new at the same time.

What Led Us To Adoption

We’ve both been certain for a very long time that parenting was in our future and started this journey open to many paths to the same destination. As we explored our options, we relied on our hearts and the experiences of those closest to us to guide us along the way, with the signposts consistently pointing us down this path. We’ve always valued diversity in all of its forms and want this to be reflected in our immediate family as it is in our extended family. We’re currently fostering an amazing baby and cherish the knowledge that our adopted children will be part of a community that includes other adoptees and where everyone is valued for their unique stories, experiences, and perspectives.
