About Us

Hi! We are Ashley and Kathryn. We are elementary music teachers for a large school district in Kentucky. We met fourteen years ago while taking summer music courses at a local university. Our friends like to say we met at band camp! Ashley plays the clarinet, and Kathryn plays the harp. We are active and love to be outdoors. We camp, hike, bike, and kayak with friends and family. Food is our love language! We enjoy cooking together and trying foods from many cultures! Ashley loves to sit by the firepit, travel, and build with Legos and is an avid University of Tennessee fan. Kathryn enjoys baking, working out, traveling, and listening to audio books. She is beginning to enjoy Tennessee orange too, even though she won’t admit it! We end each day taking a walk together with our dogs, allowing us to connect and reset.

Our Home & Pets

We built our home in a quiet community close to where we teach. Our yard is fenced in and perfect for a growing family. Our neighborhood is diverse and is filled with families and children from many cultures. When we sit on our front porch with our dogs, Luna and Lucy, neighbors stop to talk, and we see families walking and exercising and children playing and riding bikes. Neighbors in our community look out for each other and are friendly and kind. Our community has a farmers market and hosts many events for children and families in the local parks. We are located outside a city with access to unique cultural experiences, sporting events, and a vibrant arts scene.

Our Extended Family

We are blessed with a supportive and caring family! Ashley is an only child and is close to her parents. We talk to them every day and visit often. We spend holidays with them, play board games, and enjoy extended family too.

Kathryn comes from a large family and has three siblings. We often meet her parents for dinner at local restaurants and order all the desserts! Kathryn’s sister lives in another state with her four children. Distance is a challenge, and we don’t see them enough. Kathryn’s brothers live in a city close to us. They both have three children. We FaceTime weekly and see them frequently! We spend holidays together and enjoy local events. Kathryn’s large extended family gathers for Thanksgiving at her parents’ house.

We are fortunate to have a close “chosen family.” These incredible people surround us in prayer, make us laugh, and keep no secrets. We camp throughout the year. One of Kathryn’s favorite traditions is camping on Halloween weekend. We have a group costume theme, and the kids love Ashley’s scavenger hunts. Each December we host Friendsgiving. This tradition is Ashley’s favorite. Our chosen family comes together, plays games, shares a meal, and exchanges silly gifts.

What Led Us To Adoption

We have always known we wanted children and that adoption would be part of our family’s story. We work every day with families and children who have been touched by adoption and have several friends who have their own personal adoption journeys. We are excited to be parents and are committed to raising a child (or children) in a loving, nurturing home that encourages and supports them in becoming the person they dream of being.
