Alex & Ashley

Family Type: Heterosexual Couple
State We live in: Virginia

dear expectant mother

We know we will never be able to truly appreciate your difficult decision, but what we do know is that we will do anything and everything in our power to love and support your child if you choose us. We have been fortunate in our own lives to see how successful differently built families can be. We are excited to start the next chapter of our family and are deeply appreciative of your consideration since we could not do it without you.

We are both excited and nervous to move forward with the adoption process. Expanding our family has always been something we wanted, but it can be scary building such an important relationship with a stranger. We know we are up for the challenge of parenthood and hope you can place your trust in us. We take on this responsibility with space in both our hearts and our home for your child.

You can rest assured knowing that your child will grow up in a loving home, and we are open to any experiences your child might want. We are excited to teach your child everything life has taught us but believe it is important for every person, even a little one, to be able to discover what they are passionate about in life. Our joy will be watching them discover their joy.

We hope you will trust us with the opportunity to love, care for, and provide for your child and give them the best life we can. If you do choose our family, know we will forever be grateful to you and committed to your child.

About Us

We met in law school and were friends for years before we started dating. Already knowing Ashley was the one, Alex proposed after six months at the Villa Borghese Gardens in Rome. We got married on New Year’s Eve overlooking the White House, and nearly six years later, we are even happier than that day! Alex runs a small law firm in the area, and Ashley is a public servant. We love to travel and are fortunate to have been all over the world together. At home, you can find us hanging out in our backyard, snuggling up on the couch watching a bad movie, or playing games. When we aren’t trying new restaurants, Ashley loves to cook, and Alex is a very willing taste tester! Family is everything to us, and we make a point to spend quality time with both of our extended families.

Our Home

We were lucky to build our dream home in Virginia with six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a beautiful yard (Alex is very proud of his yard work!) in December 2020. Our home is within walking distance of several parks, beautiful trails, shops, and restaurants. Our neighborhood is very family friendly. There is a beloved annual Fourth of July parade and potluck, so many trick-or-treaters we regularly run out of candy, and spectacular holiday decorations. We are also minutes from Washington, D.C., and all of the museums, monuments, and activities it has to offer.

Our Extended Family

We are lucky to have very close relationships with both of our extended families. Alex’s sister recently moved away for graduate school, but his mother, father, and brother live nearby. We spend a lot of time together, whether it is going for a picnic and a hike at a local park, taking in a show at the Kennedy Center, or playing spike ball in our backyard (or MarioKart inside when it’s cold! We love games!).

While Ashley’s mother, father, sister, brother-in-law, and two adorable nephews are not local, we visit them often. We make an effort to all spend time together around the holidays and go on vacation together every year, including a biannual trip to Hawaii. Even when we aren’t together, you can find us texting up a storm in our family group chat and FaceTiming with our nephews, who like to ask us about video games and show us their latest Lego creations.

What Led Us To Adoption

We have always known we wanted to be parents, and it is something we discussed early on in our relationship. As we have watched our friends and relatives have children, our desire has grown exponentially. We have both been positively touched by untraditional ways of starting a family. Ashley has felt passionate about adoption since she was young and growing up closely with her cousin who was adopted and then in college meeting a friend and her two sisters who were all adopted and so deeply loved. Alex was raised by his stepfather (whom he has always called Dad) and knows the love and support non-biological parents can offer.
